Warrawong takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning “water on the side of the hill” and this explains the need to wear appropriate footwear before entering the sanctuary. Prams are able to negotiate the sanctuary trails, but don’t forget the only way out is up the hill! Wheelchairs are not encouraged due to the slope of the sanctuary, however, the reception, cafe, deck and animal show area are all wheelchair friendly!
Fire Ban Days or Days of Extreme Weather
On days of extreme weather or Total Fire Ban days, access to the walking trails in the Sanctuary will be restricted. The air-conditioned cafe will remain open. Nocturnal sunset tours will go ahead. The animal show will go ahead, unless the weather is that extreme that they would be too stressed to be handled.
