Red Kangaroo

Australia is home to the largest kangaroo, the Red Kangaroo. There are as many as 60 species of kangaroo. These roo's move in large groups all the time, and the groups are usually called Mobs. Most mobs consist at least 1 dominant male but definitely a few females. Here's an interesting fact, not all red kangaroo's are red... Ok so why are they called Red Kangaroo then??? There is a distinct regional difference in the colouring. In the eastern part of Australia, most males are usually red and the females are grey. Else where (like here in South Australia) they are reddish brownish!

Red Roo's weight between 20kg to 100 kilograms! That is huge for a kangaroo... With that weight, you'd question yourself how they can "hop" so high. Well these roo's can jump up to 5 meters at full size! Their height ranges from 70cm to 135cm.

The life of the red roo is about 15 years. How fast can they go or hop? They can hop at about 60km/hour!

Red kangaroos are all over Australia, but are mainly distributed throughout inland Australia. Want to know something cool?? Well the females are sexually mature at about 18 months, males at about 2 to 3 years.
