Australian Wildlife & Habitat Experiences just 25 Minutes from Adelaide!

Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary offers teachers and students a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the Australian bush in a protected, natural habitat.

The sanctuary was first established in 1969 when dairy land was revegetated with native trees and shrubs to attract native animals and birds. In 1982, the 35 acres was enclosed with feral-proof fencing and today, Warrawong is home to 100 species of birds and many native animals.

The Habitats at Warrawong

There are five major habitat types at Warrawong that enable us to accommodate a wide range of animal species.

Dry Forest: Learn about the Mountain Ash trees that once flourished here...
The tallest flowering plant in the world!

Scrublands: Home to the Tammar and Red-necked Wallaby.

Grasslands: The favoured terrain of Red, Euro and Grey kangaroos. At night, the grassland fills with bandicoots and bettongs in search of food.

Rainforest: The place to see Red-necked Pademelons, Potoroos, Bandicoots and Bettongs. The state's only mainland Platypus population can be spied and two swamp wallabies (Black Wallabies) live in the marshy bogs.

Wetlands: The delights and mysteries of freshwater springs, the Swamp, Black Water Lake and around 40 individual ponds are just waiting to be discovered!
