Australian wildlife and habitat experiences just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD!
Warrawong offers students and teachers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with Australian wildlife in a protected, natural habitat.
Warrawong was first established in 1969 when dairy land was revegetated with native trees and shrubs to attract native birds and animals. In 1982 the property was enclosed with feral-proof fencing and today Warrawong exists as an island ecosystem and is home to 100 birds and many native animals, most of which are on the highly-endangered list.
The habitats at Warrawong
There are 5 major habitat types at Warrawong that enable us to accommodate a wide range of native animal species.
Dry Forest: Learn about the Mountain Ash Trees that once flourished here – the tallest flowering plant in the world!
Scrublands: Home of the Tammar and Red-necked Wallabies.
Grasslands: The favoured habitat of the Euro, Red and Western Grey Kangaroos.
Rainforest: The place to see Red-necked Pademelons, Potoroos, Bandicoots and Bettongs. South Australia’s only mainland platypus population can be spied and two Swamp Wallabies live in the marshy bogs.
Wetlands: The delights and mysteries of freshwater springs, the Swamp, Black Water Lake and many little ponds are waiting to be discovered.
